February 14, 2025: Join us for the one-day Humanitarian Finance Summit Unlocking Impact Finance for Humanitarian Challenges, co-hosted by AidEx and the Humanitarian Finance Forum, in partnership with the Centre for Disaster Protection (CDP) and the Humanitarian Innovative Finance Hub (HIFHUB). The summit is a platform for senior-level public and private sector leaders to discuss the emerging field of Humanitarian Innovative Finance, bringing the private sector, ESG and impact investors, public sector professionals and humanitarian leaders together. October 27 – 31, 2024: We will be present in the Humanitarian Village (Floor -1, Booth A8) during the Red Cross and Red Crescent Statutory Meetings 2024, co-hosting the joint Innovative Finance booth, It’s All About the Money: New Ways of Financing Humanitarian Action alongside the IFRC and ICRC. On Thursday, 31 October, from 10:30 to 12:00 CET, our Director, Sofie Munk, will participate as a panelist in the spotlight session Overcoming Barriers on Financing and Risk Sharing to Foster Locally-led Action, focusing on increasing knowledge around risk-sharing and financing innovations.
Additionally, the HIFHUB is referenced as a key resource in the draft resolution on anticipatory action.
October 23, 2024: We will co-host an Innovative Finance side event with the Humanitarian Finance Forum and Aon at AidEx 2024. Our Director, Sofie Munk, will moderate a panel of industry leaders on the session titled Blending Financial Solutions for Humanitarian Challenges. October 23, 2024: We are co-organising the session Finance Fuels Us? The Present and Future of Pre-Arranged Financing for Anticipatory Action as part of the Anticipation Hub’s Global Dialogue Forum. The session will run from 10:30 to 13:00 CEST, and you can register to attend either online or in-person in Berlin.

October 1, 2024: IMD Business School published Humanitarian Impact Finance: Instruments & Approaches in collaboration with Foundation Lombard Odier, the La Caixa Foundation, and HIFHUB. Our Senior Advisor, Juan Coderque, had the privilege of co-authoring this insightful report, bringing his expertise to shape its valuable findings. October 2024: We are thrilled to welcome the Swedish Red Cross to our growing Sponsor Group, joining the IFRC, ICRC, Kenya Red Cross, and Danish Red Cross. Last year, we teamed up to publish an insightful report that helped National Societies better understand and apply humanitarian innovative finance. Now, with the Swedish Red Cross officially co-funding and guiding our efforts, we’re taking our collaboration to the next level, exploring new financing avenues while keeping a sharp focus on meeting needs on the ground.
September 30 – October 4, 2024: During the IFRC Regional Workshop for WASH Coordinators and Advisors in Kampala, Uganda, we delivered a workshop on Humanitarian Blended Finance (HBF). Building on the ICRC's Goma West Resilient Water Project and an ongoing HIFHUB-led consultancy on HBF, the session introduced participants to the approach and outlined various pathways for involvement. By emphasising HBF’s potential to support sustainable humanitarian action, the workshop encouraged participants to actively explore and pursue these opportunities.
September 26, 2024: For the first time, an insurance payout was triggered by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies’ Disaster Response Emergency Fund (IFRC-DREF), as demands for disaster relief surpassed its ‘deductible’ threshold. For the rest of the calendar year, further demands on the IFRC-DREF for natural hazard disasters are covered by the insurance payout, up to a total maximum of CHF15m. September 25, 2024: Together with IFRC, we co-hosted a session titled Innovative Finance: Bring Your Cross-Sector Partnerships to the Next Level at the Red Cross and Red Crescent International Fundraising Skillshare in Lisbon. This session explored real-world success stories in innovative finance, how corporate partnerships can transform funding landscapes, and how National Societies can embark on their journey into innovative finance.
August 29, 2024: Registration is now open! Are you a non-financial professional in the humanitarian sector looking to enhance your skills in building cross-sector partnerships, adopting innovative methods, and developing new resource mobilization strategies? The IMD Driving Innovative Finance for Impact program is designed for you. Running from 11 November 2024 to 6 February 2025, this unique learning experience combines live virtual sessions with immersive on-campus opportunities. May 28, 2024: The latest issue of Proparco's magazine features an in-depth interview with Juan Luis Coderque Galligo, senior advisor to the HIFHUB, on his insights and experiences from the forefront of exploring innovative partnering and financing solutions at the humanitarian-development-peace nexus in fragile and conflict-affected settings. April 16, 2024: HIFHUB's first Annual Report: Highlights of 2023 is published, reflecting on a year filled with achievements, challenges, and learning. Last year, we embarked on an ambitious journey to connect humanitarian innovative finance of the Red Cross / Red Crescent Movement in a Hub. Hosted by the Danish Red Cross and co-sponsored by the Kenya Red Cross, International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), and International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), the HIFHUB is a platform for fostering partnerships, enhancing knowledge, and shaping the future of financing humanitarian action.

November 21, 2023: On 29 Nov the HIFHUB will be hosting a brown bag session for Red Cross/Red Crescent National Societies. Focus will be on how NSs can relate to Humanitarian Innovative Finance, drawing upon the findings of a recent report. The session will be on 29 November 12:50-14:00 CET - find detailed info here, including link to the sign-up page.
November 2023: The Swedish Red Cross recently completed a report looking at how Red Cross/Red Crescent National Societies can relate to Humanitarian Innovative Finance. Based on this, the HIFHUB will organise a Brown bag session on 29 November, focusing on key findings and a practical example of innovative financing. More info will be distributed shortly to the HIFHUB mailing list and other relevant fora (if you are not already following us, please do so here).
September 2023: The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), in collaboration with global professional services firm Aon, Lloyd’s Disaster Risk Facility and the Centre for Disaster Protection, has announced a pioneering approach to disaster response: A groundbreaking risk transfer mechanism to ensure swift and agile support is available when a disaster occurs, channelled through the IFRC Disaster Response Emergency Fund.

June 22, 2023: The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), with partners from the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, launched a publication on a financing model known as the Rapid Disbursing Debt Conversion Mechanism (RDDCM). It potentially addresses a range of the humanitarian consequences faced by people and communities affected by compounding crises, including conflict: By facilitating rapid release of local currency in an affected country, resources are mobilized for National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and critical assistance can be provided to affected populations. March 22, 2023: LAUNCH: Our Innovative Finance Challenge is now open! Prior to the IFRC Global Innovation Summit in Nairobi this June, the HIFHUB together with the Solferino Academy launched a global challenge. Winners receive a fully-funded spot at the Global Innovation Summit - an opportunity to present their project at the summit - and technical support from the HIFHUB to develop the project further.
