Who we are

Danish Red Cross is a Danish organisation with Head Office in Copenhagen. In Denmark, we create communities and help those who are most vulnerable towards a better life. We help people on both sides of a conflict and in the most remote parts of the world. We do this regardless of nationality, religion or politics.

The Red Cross is the world's largest humanitarian organisation. Founded in 1863, the Movement consists of the 192 national societies – present in every country in the world with 14 million volunteers – the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).

Our work in Denmark

Red Cross is always there. Including in Denmark, where we reach out to support people in vulnerable life situations during crises as well as in everyday life. Our activities are aimed at people experiencing loneliness, refugees and asylum seekers, vulnerable families with children, women exposed to violence and people living on the edge of society, such as detainees, the mentally vulnerable and homeless people.

With over 200 local chapters and more than 40,000 volunteers, Danish Red Cross is present in all parts of the country, offering 1:1 support and community activities in cities as well as in villages. Our activities are based on the needs of individuals, and also seek to strengthen people's agency and ability to create positive changes in their lives.

Over 10,000 Red Cross volunteers are also engaged in running more than 250 second hand stores across the country. The profits from the stores, which last year amounted to more than DKK 100 million, make it possible for Red Cross Movement partners to carry out even more activities.

Danish Red Cross is prepared when disaster strikes in Denmark. We provide psychosocial aid and help the authorities assist in various ways when needed. In addition, we have samaritans who are ready to help and provide first aid at public events. We also offer courses in first aid to both companies and private individuals.
